hi all, I have a '94, 3.0v6, 4sp auto, rw-antilck, 114,000mi., I have had the vehicle for just over six months. Previous owner thru a rod thru side of the block - still ran so I got it. Now has a new bottom end and radiator. I have about 500 miles on the engine now. When I went to go out this morning I couldn't get out of park. After reading manual I discover the over-ride, pop the cover and insert the screwdriver. Unfortunately this has not done anything. I am still thinking about whether to remove the plastic shifter housing, or check out the solenoid I hear clicking when I press the button at the top of the shifter. Anyone had this experience?

I had that problem, turned out to be a fuse. I backed my boat in the water and there was a short when some trailer wiring got wet. It took a few days before I thought to check fuses.

Stupid as it may sound... but you didn't by any chance already turn the steeringwheel to the left or right just a bit.  Sometimes the pressure of the wheel from center not only will prevent the key from locking but also prevent the gear shift lever mechanism from working as well.

But I'm sure you already checked that.

Also... there should be a couple of small set screws keeping the lever's plastic cover in place.  Loosen them and sometimes just the subtle adjustment up or down will allow the lever to be engaged.
