I have a 2002 SR5, bought it back in September and love it. When I first bought it, the antenna would go up and down when inserting a CD or tape, or if the radio was turned off. I recently had problems with the mechanism getting stuck and the motor would make some God awful noises for about 10 seconds. I have it stuck in the up position now so that I do get radio reception.

My questions are:

1. Is this a common problem?

2. Is this an easy fix? Or, will I have to replace the entire antenna assembly.

very common problem. i own a car stereo shop and have replaced several, even my own. the after market unit i had at the shop worked well but wastook some timeto mount and had to be rewired, took 1.5 hrs to replace. the factory (oem) would only take half hour.
cant just replace antenna must replace entire unit. access is in the tire wheel well fender remove clips carefully or buy a few extra's plastic clips at dealership. almost guaranteed to break a few.

Thanks rakesh! I found an antenna mast on ebay for about $20, with a pretty accurate description of my problem. I am going to try the method before attempting to replace the entire unit.
