Sounds worn out..

92 has a none moving antenna, you can put that in, its in the same location.

Does the motor make awful noises when you turn the radio on? I had a similar problem a while back. I thought that I was going to have to replace the whole assembly and someone here tried to sell me the unit for $80. What happens is that the antenna is raised and lowered via the motor and a plastic piece that has grooves on it. The plastic piece is fed through the motor assembly and the teeth on the motor gear push the plastic piece up and down, depending on if the radio is on or not. This plastic part is prone to breaking, rendering your antenna useless.

I bought just the antenna mast for less than $21 plus shipping from: http://www.antennamastsrus.com/Toyota/4%20Runner/4%20Runner%201996-2002.htm

The mast came with very detailed instructions:

Hope this helps you!
