2 decisions on 'em, first gen runner or a second gen runner

needs to be able to get through sand, climb rocks, and go mudding with as few incedents of getting stuck

need to be able to carry people around easily, and access my gear

generally speaking, the smaller the engine + manual tranny = better fuel mileage..but with a smaller engine, you sacrifice power without mods.

the first generation 4runner,(85-89) are the best for offroading , the 85 is a solid axle both from and back, witch makes it stronger then the rest but the ifs is just as good with a smoother ride on the highway, but it all comes down to personal preference. ive got both generations and me and my father inlaw both perfer the 85-89 models .

any how good luck

i happened to find a 2nd generation runner for $1650 that needs lifter work. is it worth it, or should i talk it down, or not even try with this one.

what do you mean it needs lifter noise? does it have an engine knock?
