Hi all! I'm new to the forum! I have a 98 4-Runner and the check engine light came on the other day. I called my Toyota service rep who advised me to bring it in for a $75 testing/inspection. Turns out the gas cap was a little too loose and the fumes were being picked up by the sensors.

I've asked around and some folks told me that happened with their Toyota trucks. Have any of you noticed this? Is thislike Toyota folklore?

The reason I ask is because I'm feeling a little disappointed that my professional Toyota Service rep didn't give me the heads up on this when the college intern a cubical over seems to think this is common knowledge. Not only did I pay for a diagnostic test, I alsorented a car while mine was at the shop. It's turned into the most expensive (and lengthy) oil change I've ever had!
