Hello to everyone,

My name is Jack and I’m a new member to this site. I own 1999 SR-5 with 98,000 miles. I bought it used with 30,000. It is Bright Red with a “Limited” wheel and tire upgrade. I added the front wrap around brush guard and the tail light protectors.

I am having infrequent problems with my starter. Initially in the morning, or when the vehicle sits for a few hours, the engine/starter will not turnover on the first try. Then, if I turn the key to the off position and try it again, it starts and will start right away there after.

I installed a new battery and cleaned the terminals but that did not help. I’m thinking the starter is going. Any ideas?

Also the electric antenna stopped working. How hard is that to repair?

Thanks

Jack

starter solenoid contacts are worn out. can be replaced individually, or just swap in a new starter. Remember, Toyota starters are only good for about 1,000,000 starts!

It is possible to have one contact worn so deeply and the other be fine so that the plunger cocks and then the starter is stuck in the ON position. (kinda grindy, I've only seen it happen once)
