Does anyone have an electric (corded) impact driver? Or any experience with one? I'm looking to invest in an impact driver/wrench but I live in an apartment complex and thought maybe an electric would make a lot less noise than an air compressor. It might save a few bucks not having to buy a compressor and a well-matched driver for automotive work. Not having a compressor would save a little room in my "already-not-big-enough-for-me" 1-car garage! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Craftsman makes an electric impact, but it is $$ (last I looked $180).  It is less noisy (notice I didn't say quieter), and has pretty decent torque.

thanks for the input.... DeWalt, Makita, and I think Ingersol Rand as well as Craftsman makes a few. DeWalt seemed to have the biggest selection and torquey available. I'll have to see who carries them. Even if it is a little pricey, I still wont have to spend $400 or so on a compressor plus another $150 or so on an impact gun. We'll see how it goes and if it's all good, I'll post in case others want to know.

Some of these produce up to 1500 ft/lbs: http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/search.do?keyword=impact

My cousin have one and it has proven very handy for routine stuff. I often borrow it and keep it in the vehicle and have had the opportunity on several occaisions to assist damsels in distress with flat tires on the side of the highway. They are always very impressed.

Watch the battery life if you go cordless, some dont last under heavy use.
