Hi guys, new to the forum. I''m looking at a ''99 4Runner w/124k on it. The owner seens to be straight-up about everything. He''s telling me that one of the cylinders has a bad valve seal. During a long trip (200 miles +) he has to add about a half quart of oil. Says it will sometime put out a little smoke on start-up(not always). The engine is a 3.4 V6, what do you guys think? It''s a pretty clean Limited with all the buttons. I will probably have to give $7,500 for it . How''s this price sound. Anyone know how difficult a job to replace this valve seal? Thanks for the help.

A quart every 200 miles, did you check the spark plugs by chance to see if there was any coking (carbon build up) on them? Was it leaking oil on the underside? That would be a lot of oil going into you cylinders.

As to the cost it really depends on where you’re at, but you can pick up a 99 4 runner for $6500 or less in many places.
