89 v6 knocking

Hi
I have a 89 4runner with the 3.0 v6 and it has started to knock, ive heard the main bearings can go out but it seems
too fast for it to be the rod knocking into the block, also seems more like a tick than a solid knock. I was wondering
if anyone has heard of valves going bad on these years?
