Can Anyone Diagnose This...

I have a 93 4x4 4Runner with automatic transmission. It has been sitting up for a year now because it won't move. I am assuming the trans is dead. It started at first by making a loud wining sound on a cold start. Once it warmed up, it drove fine. After a while it began jumping out of overdrive into a lower gear that reved up the RPM's while in motion. I would pull over, turn the truck off for a few minutes, then crank it and it will go on until it did it again. Finally, it stopped moving at all. Some people say it could be the torque converter. Has anyone else had this issue and can tell me what the problem may be? Thanks.

Hey, it sounds like your trans is done but, i would first check the cond. of the fluid. Does it look dark in color??? Does it smell burnt??? If so, you may be a candidate for a rebuild.. Good luck.

check your vacuum lines, you would be amazed with the kind of problems cracked rubber can cause. i've seen this issue with a mitsubishi manufactured transmission, took it to a transmission shop and they told me i needed a total rebuild, but three dollars worth of material fixed it!

Thanks, I will check the trans fluid and vacuum lines this weekend. Oh, and to add, I had the trans filter and fluid changed before and it was still acting up.
