whirring bearing type noise
 

Hi All, I've got a 1998 4Runner limited with 137,000 on the clock.
I bought it a few weeks ago and it is like new, the previous owner must have loved it. It has a noise coming from the drive train, a whirring type bearing noise that is approximately twice the wheel speed in frequency and is only noticable in coast, to me it sounds like it could be front diff or something in the transmission, but then it could be coming from the back, its hard to say when your testing alone !
Is there anybody who has heard of this before or who can tell me if its a common problem. If its going to be expensive to repair I'll just turn up the volume on the CD until it drops clean off ha ha

I had also the same issue about noise. I am hearing a grinding noise coming from under the gear shifter lever. The noise is heard when slowing and turning right and over large bumps. It seems like when force is put to a stop and a right turn this grinding noise is heard. any suggestion?



Car Care

U-joints wouldn't do it but worth it to check them. The yoke in the diff or tranny can do that, but usually causing leaking. Its a little weird, I would start with check and inspect since that's free to do yourself and go from there.
