4Runner Rear Spoiler

Hi

My question is: the rear spoiler for the 4runner is only for fashion, or it have some importance in the perfomance in high speed???
Thanks..

Mainly it helps keep the back window cleaner from tires fliping up wet & grimy road crap

Though it looks a bit goofey to say the least, it does a good job of keeping the rear glass clear at speeds upward of 40mph. I like the look better than none at all, but it does take some getting used to.

That confuses me too coz I heard that the spoiler can make car even more fuel economical. Maybe the purpose was to add downforce for its better traction, etc. Not so sure about it, any idea?

Maybe it does help keep the back window clean too but my 2 cents on it's function is the rear window rolls down. When it's down exhaust fumes start coming inside the vehicle while your driving or even stopped at a light. The rear spoiler helps channel the air traveling over the top of your 4Runner (while your driving) down over the back of the window blowing away the nasty smell of your exhaust. On the older models they just had that ugly little piece of metal that was cut out around the idiot light and now they've made it more appealing although bulky on the newer models with the idiot light molded into it. Agree?
