Halogen/blue lights?
 

My 4 runner is a 99 and I was wondering what it would take to swap out the headlights with halogen/blue lights, cost and work wise. thanks for the help

Any particular reason you want to install the HID lights? If it is more for cosmetic look, you could just look at replacing with HID-like standard bulbs. Much cheaper investment if you want the "blue" light look. It all depends on preference though.

well, I do like the blue look better, however I do a lot of night driving and I've seen the comparison between the ability and quality of HID vs. Halogen and HID blows it out of the water. Also I read that HID lasts longer as well. I've been told the costs from 50 to 190 bucks, but i wanted to hear from someone who actually did it to their 4 runner. thanks again.

I can't tell you about the HID kit, but I did swap out my orginial bulbs for an aftermarket pair online. Theyare made by Sun Auto (link below). I think it's all you're really looking for honestly. I do a bit of mountain/night driving as well. I wanted something that could dramatically enhance my visibility without emptying my pocket or forcing surgery to the truckon something that really isn't broken. You could probably get a little closer to the look you're going after with a more expensive pair from Polarg or PIAA...... keep an eye on the color temp. The higher the number (example: 4200k for the Sun Auto's) the brighter/crisper light the bulb will produce. I changed all three sets (high, low, fog) and I'm very happy with the results. There are not quite as bright as my brother's HID Audi lamps, but blow anything stock out of the water. Also, they won't emit a ton of the blue color you're talking about, but are definitely not stock looking.

Good suggestion...Another piece of advice if you go with HID-like bulbs would be to make sure you check the warranty to see how long you're covered.

I went through a few different pairs on my 01 Civic. The Sylvania Silverstars just didn't last, so the warranty kept covering new ones.
