is the 4x4 safer than 4x2 for a new driver?

i'm buying my daughter her first car very soon. i want to get her either a 2001 or 2002 4runner. i know toyota came out with traction control in 2001 so that's why i'mstarting with that year. my question is would the 4x4 be a better choice from a safety stand point? can you run it in all wheel drive all the time for just normal day to day driving? any input you have would be greatly appreciated.

4-wheel drive and all wheel drive are DIFFERENT.

All wheel drive always is on, no turning it off or on. 4-wheel drive usually means you have a button, shifter, switch to go from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive.

Safety wise unless you drive in the snow alot, really there is no difference.

Mine (06Sport)has"full time 4 high", basically I only have 2 choices, 4H or 4L. Personally I know it has saved my A$$ a couple of times in inclimate weather.
