auotmatic body lift
I know it's possible to install a body lift on a runner with an auto trans. From what I understand, although most body lifts specify manual trans only, it is possible to lift an automatic runner, with a few modifications to the shift linkage. Are there any other mods needed to make a manual trans only body lift fit on a truck with an auto? If so what, and how? What is the best way to modify the linkage without weakening it?

RE: auotmatic body lift
your best bet would be to remove the linkage, and have something fabricated to the proper length.

RE: auotmatic body lift
cool, but is that it? does anything else need to be modified? also, I was wondering about my stock shocks, they should be ok for the time being, right?

RE: auotmatic body lift
well, if you lift it too much, it will ride like crap bacause the shock travel will be exceeded.

RE: auotmatic body lift
thanks Patrick, I really appreciate the info. The body lift will be three inches, so is a bigger shock necessary? I was thinking about putting Ranchos at the corners, but I wanted to hold off for a little while, until i had the lift and tires on the truck. What I'm getting at is, will the stock shocks stretch to reach a three inch lift or do I absolutely need to get bigger shocks too?

RE: auotmatic body lift
i honestly dont know if three inches will push the shocks to their limit, but think about it this way. from fully extended to fully shrunken down, the inner part of the shock allows for what? maybe 18-20"? they are vehicle specific because they are made to sit at the mid point, so if its a 18" full travel, and it sits at 9", directly in the middle, by pulling it 3" out off the bat, youre reducing 33% of your vehicles suspension travel.

RE: auotmatic body lift
actually, as long as the shocks mount to the frame and not the body, the body lift won't affect them. on the other hand, if you run a bigger, heavier wheel and tire after the lift, you should run a stiffer shock to pervent bottoming out.

RE: auotmatic body lift
so you cant just put a obody lift on an auto 4runner....you have to get something fabricated?
