My speedometer on my 93 4runner quits and then restarts on occassion. It runs most of the time but then just stops and then restarts.

 

I had the same problem awhile back on my 1992 Toyota Pickup that I used to have. It would work and then stop working. The odometer still worked. It ended up being some sort of sensor near the transmission that had failed. It was somewhere around $350 to replace and then I had to buy a new gauge cluster. I ended up spending around $550 to fix the whole thing and then rolled the mileage of the new gauge cluster to the correct mileage. It was a pain and probably not worth the time and the money to fix. The only reason I did it is because the mechanic charged me $150 to tell me what the problem was. I felt like since I already spent the money I might as well fix it. Good news is that the sensor that they replaced fixed my oil temp gauge as well. Let me know if you want more details on it.
