thinking of buying a 4Runner

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. I've been an avid admirer of 4Runners for years and may be in the position soon to finally be able to purchase one. But here's the questions I want to ask. Ok, so the 4Runner I want is a 98 model (yes, my wife and I both like the older model better), but it has 175,000 miles on it. With that said, I know a lot of people say that Toyotas run forever. I should know, I have a Corolla with about 100,000 on it and it's only 3 years old. How long will this SUV actually run? With that said, how often do I need to schedule maintenance? I'veheard a bunch of people say that 4Runners have very minimal maintenance that needs to happen in order to keep them in good shape. Just wondering. And like another poster I saw on here, do you know of any specific defects in the 98 model or any other model pre-2003? Oh yeah, one more thing. As far as gas goes, does it get good mileage on the highways? At leastcomparitavely for an SUV? Thanks for all the input.

I like toyotas, but at 175,000 miles I probably wouldnt get it personally. Then again it all depends on what the purpose of it is for, how much, etc.. etc...

RE: thinking of buying a 4Runner

The reason I want it besides the fact that4Runners are freaking awesome is I need something dependable for my commute. I know pretty much all cars get better mileage on the highway than just in the city, but I'm driving a (free)Chevy pickup that belongs to my father in law and I spend a quarter of a tank to and from work, and I have no cruise control, and no radio. So it's basically for me and just driving it to where I need it to go. Had a 2001Isuzu Trooper that I loved dearly that just died on me about 6 months ago, and this is my perfect excuse to buy a 4Runner.
