V6 vs V8
Hi everyone,
I am a newie here. I plan to buy a 2005 4-Runner. However, I am still considering between V6 limited or V8 limited.
My initialthought wasa V6, because it has RWD and 4WD button, (which V8 has full-time 4WD). In fact,I don't tow as many, so I think I may not need a V8.However, someone told me that V6 hasn't got enough power when full-loaded of passengers and uphill? Is that true?
I am also worrying about V8 will consume more gas... any suggestion or comments? Which one would you pick?
Thank you!
|

Thank you! FYI, my 2004 V8 gets 15-16 around town and 19-20+ on the highway. These figures are calculated not from the on-board display which is always higher by 1-2 MPG.
Maybe some V6 Owners can post their calculated mpg?
|

practicality get a v6 4wd engine and it has an option of 2wd in city driving and 4wd when your loaded, uphillor insnow "multi - mode".
|
RE: V6 vs V8
There is only a difference of about 20 HP between the V-6 and V-8. We travel with a family of 5 with our shtuff in the back, and we travel up and down a 6% grade on a regular basis with no major problems. I did purchase an 18' camp trailer that weighs in at about 3000 lbs for occasional trips. The 4Runner V-6 is a gutless wonder with the travel trailer and the mileage drops to about 13 mpg. They mean what they say about buying the V-8 to tow anything.

RE: V6 vs V8
i have the v6. it's great. the oil filter is on the top for easy access. my milage is better than the v8. and i don't do any towing. i do load up on lots of mulch and lanscape rocks. no problem !

RE: V6 vs V8
Get the V6. The power is not a problem. Up hills it will do just fine even loded with people. Not to mention the better effiency that the V6 has. Get the V6. I have a 1997 V6 4runner and I get 24 mpg on the highway. Get the V6.

RE: V6 vs V8
Here's my 2 cents worth. I owned a 2004 V-8 Limited 4Runner and recently purchased a 2007 V-8 Sport Edition 4Runner. I considered the V-6 for my newest purchase, so I drove two identical vehicles back to back, one a V-6 and one a V-8. I'll tell you, the V-6 seemed powerful enough for anything I would need, but the V-8 is SO much smoother, quieter, and responsive. In my opinion, there is no comparison. The MPG difference is minimal, and most of my driving is highway anyhow. So, I own my second V-8, and I am thrilled to have it. I absolutely love the vehicle and the smoothness of the drivetrain. I don't care what anybody says, the V-6 puts off alot more engine noise and vibration. If there is a question in your mind, do what I did, drive them both, that way you can make an informed decision. Good Luck.
