1997 4-cylinder motor noise
 

My 97 4 cylinder (manual trans.) has a fairly loud metallic hollow knocking sound at cold startup that lasts about 2 minutes before it goes away. It almost dissappears in the summer, and gets worse with colder temperatures. I have 140,000 miles on it, and it has been carefully maintained. Anyone have any ideas what it is?
