2000 4Runner goes in reverse not forward

I have a 2000 4Runner Limited with 102,000 miles. Within the last month we (intermittently) can back out of the garage or a parking spot but not go forward when we put it into 'drive.' Until yesterday we were able to drop it into 'L' and get it to start forward and then shift to 'D' and everything would be ok. Yesterday we backed out of a parking place and couldn't go forward. I dropped it into 'L' and when I tried to go forward it felt like the brakes were on. I continued to accelerate and since I was in 2wd the back tires started to loose traction. I pumped the brakes a couple of time and it seemed to clear up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

yup, it is your rear drum brake - one side or the other that is locking up.. my son's was doing the same thing, then it would break loose with a loud clunk. The rear brake job did the trick. That was 2 months ago. Now, just today, his real axle seals are leaking into the drum brake and so I have to have another brake job AND a real axle & bearings replaced.... to the tune of $1000! This is a '97 2wd Limited with 126kmiles.
