86 series sun roof and shade

I have owned my 1986 SR5 for about 14 years. Lifted it, repainted it, sank it, rebuilt it, the works. But, my sun roof never gave me any issues. Recently though, the frame corroded so badly the glass came out. You cant get just a frame. You have to order the whole frame and glass assembly. So, when I got my new sun roof and tried to put my sun shade back in I noticed that there is nowhere for the back hatch (push and twist) pin to rest. The hooks are present on the front, but nothing in the back. No holes, no hangers.

However, when I hook my sunshade back on to my old frame I see they are identical. I notice that it appears I was placing the pin between the glass and the frame for all these years. I am the third owner and have no idea if the original roof was replaced at some point and mine has been missing a part in the rear.

Any thoughts? P.S. looked through the owners manual (yeah, I have one) and Chiltons with no luck on diagrams. Only directions for removal.

Thanks for any help. Scott.

RE: 86 series sun roof and shade

Well, thanks for checking in. As it turns out there is a bracket that is held in place between the sun roof latch and the frame. The bracket contours the frame and provides a rest for the pin on the sun shade. Also, because the bracket is only supported by one of the sun roof latch screws there is aspacer to go on the other side. For the life of me I can't recall ever having one on my truck. Anyhow, there is the answer.
