'87 Electronically Controlled Transmission

Last week while driving on the freeway, my 4Runner started hesitating and then I smelled an acrid odor (something electrical burning). After pulling of the freeway, it continued to hesitate and even died a couple of times. When it died it started right back up. Eventually the acrid odor when away. Now it runs fine except that I have very little power (the transmission shift poinnts are very low) and the ECT switch on the center console has no effect.
I'm assuming that either the ECT switch, or a relay or computer module may have burned up. I haven't gotten to that level of troubleshooting yet.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I have 1987 4Runner, 22RE, automatic transmission.

Yeah i also think so.
It might be ECT switch that has burned out. Check the ECT switch if it is then replace it.
Might solve your problem.......
Thanks

Problem resolved itself

About 3 months after the problem happened, the ECT switch started working again, and all my shift points are back. I don't understand why.
