Bilstein HD shocks- soft ride???

On my 1998 4Runner 4WD, 6 cylinder, I replaced the shocks with Bilstein HD shocks due to soft ride, bouncing, and rear end sag when towing a 16 ft Ranger boat/trailer. The ride is somewhat improved, but I am still surprised it is not firm, the rear end still sags towing the trailer. With the car at rest, I can push the rear end down a good 2-3 in, when I release it only bounces 1 or 2x. The Toyota dealer tells me I need to replace the shocks with OEM, and it is uncommon to need to replace the springs.. The Bilstein tech guy tells me the ride should be firmer than stock.
Any suggestions???

RE: Bilstein HD shocks- soft ride???

Hummm well its both springs and shocks the way your telling me. The spring is the weight factor and the shock is the rate it moves and smoothness etc...

So if you sag alot towing which you will pretty much no matter what you do in a 4-runner, you might have to live with it, I dont know of any companies with that much firmer of springs, you can search and ask questions on the internet more.

Soft and bouncy? Humm this sounds weird. I have always heard soft OR bouncy but both?

Toyota dealer is an idiot hehe
