Check Engine Light Cylinder misfire

I have a 1996 6 cylinder 4runner that was giving a code of random cylinder misfire 2, 4 and 6. I changed the plugs and wires with stock OEM parts. Now the code is reading just cylinder 4 misfire. The mechanic said that it's a coil pack on cylinder 4. My understanding is that the code would read 4 and 3 if it was a coil, because that coil fires both cylinders? Any thoughts? Maybe the plug in 4 is faulty or installed wrong? Help Please, won't pass inspection and this is the second year I've been dealing with this.

have you check the spark plugs, fuel injectors or the compression? When mine blew the exhaust valve, it was running on 3 cylinders. Sound like it could be a compression issue.
