Intermittent cruise control

As mentioned above; my 1998 4runner has intermittent cruise operation. The cruise indicator light always activates when I flip into cruise, but the cruise 'set' does not always work. I appreciate any assistance very much.

Besides checking the connection and the hoses, I dont have a clue..
