Locking Center Differental

I have noticed that on my 2K5 4Runner, I can only engage the Center Differential Lock when in H4 mode and not L4 mode. Is this normal ? The manual seems to indicated that when in L4 mode I should be able to engage the center differental lock and disengage the vehicle stability control the same way as when in H4 mode. Thanks in advance for any help.

i would think that it would lock, especially in L4...maybe check with your salesman, to see if this is normal?

Duh, I had the vehicle in park while trying to switch into L4. The vehicle has to be in neutral.
