Longevity

I'm considering buying a 2011 or '12 Trail variant. I owned 2 LR3's (but never beyond 50k miles) and never had reliability issues. I need a vehicle to take on fire roads and beaches. Right now, it's a tossup between the Cherokee and the 4Runner. I'm anal about maintenance, and do my own work.. my last bmw lasted over 260k miles without an overhaul when I sold it.

What can I expect from a 4Runner? In new england, is rust going to be an issue for the body (the pickup recalls from the 2000's scare me a little). How will the motor hold up? The resale on 4Runners is a good $10k more over the Cherokees with same mileage/year/and starting price, so I'm guessing there's a good reason for that.

I won't be modding it, aside from minor interior tweaks, until the truck gets old. Can I expect to get into the 200k's without spending $$$ to keep it running?

Thanks guys!
