Default Problems with factory tire pressure sys

Anyone else having problems with the factory tire pressure monitoring system(we have an '04)? We have had the dash light come on intermittently. The pressure iswithin a couple pounds of thefactory (door sticker) settings. How sensitive is the system, anyone know the parameters for when the light is supposed to come on? Thanks!

Looking to educate myself before I make the trip to the dealer.

Check the spare tire. I had the same problems and corrected the pressure in the spare and have not seen the warning light again.

I have an 05 Runner. Last weekend my rear passenger tire blew (I have after market wheels). I got the tire replaced and the spare was put back in its place. When I left the tire shop the tire low warning light wasn't on. About an hour after driving, the warning light came on but was flashing.

My husband disconnected the battery hoping that would reset the settings but it's still there.I've double checked all the pressure in all my tires but not the spare. Thanks for tip on checking the pressure in the spare. The dealer wants $94 just to take a look at it, so I will definitely try this first.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, please let me know.

I can't believe I never thought of this. You were right, it was about 5 pounds low. I added air and it has been good ever since. I hope I don't need to do that too often as getting air into the spare and checking the pressure are a pain given how it is mounted.

Yeah It is a pain to drop the tire down and add the air. I have not had to add it since, so you should be good to go. Glad I could help.
