rear hatch pulldown motor problems

yo! have a 2004,4 runner. the rear hatch pull down motor will not latch! when you put a screwdriver blade into the latch assembly it closes but then opens back up,not locking shut. tried sprays,seems to work smooth but releases and wont lock shut. any ideas?
