Rookie Question Tire size
 

I just got an 89 4cylinder for a birthday gift from my wife and a buddy of mine just got the exact year make and model. We are going to start gearing them up for the woods and we don"t know a lot about the capabilities of these trucks yet. I can"t afford to lift it yet, but a guy at work told me to throw some 31's on it and get out there. I don't plan on going too crazy with it (yet) , but I am just looking for some advice as to what tire size would be the best to start off with. Thanks.</P>

31 are good kinda takes away power from the 4 banger but its decent</P>


and as for capablities man this truck is it man.. the only let down is the ifs but if you r just giong bogging your good. i got an 89 with the 22re with a 4.5 skyjacker and a 3 inch body running 35x14.50x15 super swamper boggers 5.29 front and rear and ill tell you this thing is unstopable. i love it.</P>

jeffn-depending on the kinds of terrain you encounter,you may try a 16" all terrain,....may I suggest my fave?...10 ply Avon(not door to door cosmetics co.]the tire co.I replaced my/31"'/15's w/35"16's</P>


Igained Hp ground clearance and they fit great unless your gettin"it down some seriously rutty terrain,but if you do alot of sand,or deep</P>


snow well you"ll have to buy air down kit,and maybe bead lock em w/anthing below 15-20 psi. hope that helps?</P>

Rookie Question Tire size
 

I just recently bought some used 31's and have been out playing in the woods a bit. Seems pretty good so far- got through a few pretty nasty mud holes. Gonna save up for a lift and some bigger tires in the spring. Any suggestions. There is a pic on this page of a white one that is about as high as I would like to go. I am not sure what he has done to it. </P>

From my experaince I started with 31's it changed my speedometer reading but I had to compinsate for the added miles on traveling. Once you get any larger than a 31 inch tire you will start lossing power and fuel cunsumption will be a factor. I curently have a 1986 with a 4 cyl. I have installed 35 inch tires although it has been geared for the larger tires it has not lost any power from the conversion. Good luck

i have a quick question..im puttin a 3 inch body lift on my 97 4runner and am putting BFG mud terrains on it but am not sure how big i can go without rubbing issues...got any advice?
