Default Transmission Surging

I have a 1995 4Runner 6 Cyl. 4x4 Automatic

Lately the car has started to surge when cruising at 50 mph or so.

Is this an engine surging situation? Or is it a transmission surging situation?

Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for the feedback.

when you say that it is surging, do the RPMs go up suddenly? or does it pick up in speed?

the surging for want of a better description is like the the motor hunting slightly or almost like a very mild bucking.

this only happens at a steady crusing throttle - if I accelerate slightly or take it out of OD it stops.

My 4runner seems to have a simular transmission problem going on. There is a slight jolt when the acceleration is increased or let off of too quickly. Otherwise it drives fine. It is a 95 model. I haven't had it checked out yet though, it seams minor and a coworked said it was just going into gear well. Who knows?

I wouldn't assume a tranny problem immediately... sounds like it could be a sensor. Maybe a TPS?
