Vapor Locking At Temps above 90degrees
 

I have a 93 4runner 4cly. with 140K I've owned it for a year and didn't have any problems last summer this year It's starting to vapor lock if driving around town, out on highway it's ok. Since I've owned it the only things I've done was add a high volt coil, accel wires, cap and rotor. I'v just installed a new fuel pump, stainer and changed the fuel filter. Ive changed several gas stations and have went to premium fuel still no change. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Gas cap could need to be changed..

Bummer, hummm I dont know beyond that... I would have to see it to figure it out, or more info..

fuel line-make sure you have no rubber hose in place of the original metal line heated rubber lines next to the block may vapor lock.

Well after changing fuel pump, strainer and installing heat shields it truned out not to be a fuel problems, I had installed a Nology high voltage coil last winter and I just happen to place my hand on it when the problem was happening and the coil was a little warm, so I still had the orginal coil so I put it back on an the problem went away. I call Nology because the coil had a year warranty they said to sent it to them and they would test it, Well low and behold they call back saying their was nothing wrong with the coil. So I told them to keep it and would never buy their products again, it has been 3 week with hot weather town driving and no problems.

So it was cutting out, not vapor locking correct?

Glad you found the problem, and thanks for sharing..

On a side note NOLOGY seems to really suck, I havent seen anything good come from them.

The NOLOGY Hotwires I like, but only for very specific applications. For example, one of my bikes hashemi-spherical heads, domed pistons, andnon-centric spark plugs. The Hotwires helped a lot, especially with making starting a lot easier. In my Autocross car, when I was running Stock class, adding Hotwires gave me just enough of a boostto be able to beat my closest rival.

Would I shell out the bucks for normal, everyday use? Nope. Now that I have a newerbike for everyday use, the above mentioned bike is "special occcasion only" and uses regular plug wires. Now that I've modded my autocross car way beyond Stock class limitations, when the Hotwires wear out I'll go with regular wires.

This was a weird one because when it would happen it would start for a few seconds then die, this would happen a couple of times, then all it would do it crank. If you let it cool down for about an hour it would start and run as long as it wasn't hot outside. Thats why I thought it was vapor locking..
