87 4runner fuel pump problem.

Hello, I purchased a non-running 87 4runner (135k milage) with a blown head gasket sitting 5 years with milkshake in the engine. After a complete garage rebuild and installation (with fresh gas) i am having trouble getting fuel to the injectors. Pump makes no sound when ingition is activated and i am not sure if it should. There are 2 sets of wires going to the tank. 1. The sending unit has 3 wires of which the center one is hot when ignition is on and 2. the fuel pump which has 2 wires which neither are hot. What should i check, what am i doing wrong. Thanks.

every electronic fuel pump that i have ever seen made some noise...have you tried spraying some starting fluid, or even some fuel into the engine to see if you can keep it running that way? that would thebn isolate the fuel system as the issue...
