I have a 2007 4-Runner which I purchased used with about 45,000 miles last year. This is my second Toyota; my first was a 2007 Yaris purchased new in '07. I have been very happy with both.

The 4-Runner will need brake work soon and I thought I might ask for your advice. I've seen the technical and DIY posts and expect to do the work myself.

There is some runout on one of the rotors, felt in the pedal but un-measured. The dealer ($300 + to replace the front pads) suggested turning them. Since I live in the rust belt (northeastern Ohio) I expect to find some pitting as well.

All in all, would you recommend replacing the rotors or see if they can be turned first? And since corrosion is always an issue on vehicles in this climate, would you replace any other parts (pins, shims, springs) besides the pads as a matter of course? Finally, do you have any recommendations for specific pads?

I'm interested in stopping power above noise or wear considerations. OEM pads are ceramic, and some say ceramic is best. Any opinions on ceramic vs semi-metallic, and any votes for best or worst brands?

Thanks for your replies.
