whats a good tyre
 

hey guys im from australia just wondering what is a good tyre for my '90' 4runner? im not the richest bloke in the world but good tyres last longer. does anybody recomend any. are there any i should stay clear from? thanx. matto.

I use Michelin LTX M/S 235/75R15 and have almost 81k road and offroad miles on them. They cost a bit more than others but they don't seem to be magnets for nails like alot of other brands. A bit noisy on the highway, so turn up the tunes [:-]

I drive a 2007 SR5 4RUNNER with 265/70/R16 Michellin Cross Terrain. I use to own a 2005 TACOMA 4X4 with BFGoodrichA/T tires and I liked the look and feel of thetire.
I'm considering buying those same tires for the 4runner but I'm hesitant because maybe they may be a little over-kill? I'm also considering the BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A tire.

Would anyone advise against one or the other? And if so why?

I like the BFG all terrains. They have a good look and last a long time. They have decent tread style that's somewhat close together. When you have spaced out tread on your tires (like mud terrains or swampers) it results in fewer mpg's (if that's important to you, it is to me!) and also can wear faster on your ball joints (more vibration). The Pro Comp all terrains are good to and are supposed to last longer than bfg's but i don't know if that's really true. They have a stronger sidewall than bfg's but i didn't like that about them when it came to lowering my tire pressure in the dunes the pro comps didn't do as well because the sidewalls didn't give and make the tire wider on the sand. So bfg's all the way!
