hey out there! new here and just trying to find some answers before I pay 'the man' to fix it. I have an 88 4runner, recently rebuilt 22re (so says the prev owner) 5sp 4x4. It runs great 95% of the time while driving easy, but when I shift into 3rd, 4th and 5th gears it will spark knock and seemingly cut the fuel off (chug-a-chug). Since I replaced the PCV and fuel filter it no longer quits on me but still spark-knocks under load (about 75% of the time) but recovers quickly when I ease of the throttle. Any ideas?

 

After the PCV replacement the truck increasingly got better and now runs like a top. I have another question...Will my 88 5speed fit a 1990 22re motor?
