so i just picked up a 1991 4runner and the tailgate wont open or unlock and the rear window wont go down

can anyone help me with this?

 

There'a relay/switch whatever that controls the operation of the rear window and tailgate locks. Its accessed from inside the truck, about midway down the body on the driver's side. Not only is it a bit@% to get to, but its also a $400 switch (and that was many years ago). Takes input from a variety of limit switches and stuff so is prone to failure. If you hunt around a bit on this site, you'lll see a lot of references to the dreaded rear window problem.

You'll need to find it and take a look at it. If you're lucky its a loose connection, but most likely you'll need a new switch.
