Default Who wants it?

Hey there,

I'm a Ford man, thinking of going to the Dark Side.

I have an option on a 93 4Runner w/83k for about $4,000. I know Toyotas are good vehicles, but what about this particular yr/model? It's very clean w/ sunroof and all the goodies.

Would you guys buy this truck?

Thanks,,

I've done a lot of reading since my first post, and I keep running into the same thing, the 3.0 is a dog, and prone to head gasket failure.

This sounds just like my '89 Bronco II.

I really can't get over how good this thing looks (I haven't driven it yet), so I may have to buy it for resale.

Any other info you guys could give would be great, and if someone really needs one of these. let me know, and maybe I can hook you up.

get the 4runner and just drive it till it dies. it'll take longer that you think. by then you'll probably hooked hard enough to fix it.

My 91 4runner went until 210k miles and it looks pretty good for the distance. The motor went on me a couple of months ago, just got it rebuilt and got an amazing deal on it.... I have the V6 and yes, i will admit it is slow, but she runs great. I just got it back about 2 weeks ago and made a trip from home in michigan back to school in Pennsylvania in it last night... she ran great for having about 500 miles on the engine.

I was researching new 4Runners and just had to reply when I saw your message... I have a 97 4Runner that just came down w/ a leaking head gasket or blown gasket. it's got 135K miles and I've had it since she was new in 96. The dealer said to replace it w/ that many miles is not worth it given the corrosion and other stuff they might run into. I loved it but now I've got to find something else. The other reason why I'm responding is that I also had an 89 Bronco II and the head gasket went on that too. Small world I suppose. Does anyone know if the new 4Runners are good engines? I'm thinking of getting the V8. I wish i didn't love the old one so much

a car is a car untill.. no matter what a car will break down some sooner than other because of maintence or hard driving can easily destroy a head gasket, but the resale on the toyota 4 runner is unbelieveable. I finally got one after hours of looking and paid 8,000 for a base 4cylinder 2wd with 60,000miles and 2000.

To Skeet:

Why Replace it fix the gasket if everything else works good yes it's expensive but it's cheaper than buying a new one.

but im only a poor man don't buy a car everytime something goes wrong. 135000 is not bad miles thats actually pretty good mine is 222000 and still going strong. dealers only say that so you will spend money and make them rich.
but if you must im pretty sure you can sell the 4 runner if the gaskets fixed for min of 7000-9000 dollars and people will buy it

from my understanding the 99-00 models also had rod problems. I have and 02 v6 for sale.. love it and hate to see it go but we just dont need that much of a vehicle. But the hard part about selling it is it only has 55k miles and I know it will run forever. what to do??

If the truck is clean and you know for sure the head gasket recall has been done, then it should be a good buy. Also around 130k or so i have seen them through rod bearings. Just little thing to keep in mind, not saying it will happen, just that i have seen it a few times.
