engine surging

When my 94 4runner is idling the rpm's go up and down. It happens while warming up and also sitting at a light. Not gradual but kind of a surging. Any suggestions?

No other problems except being a complete dog as far as power goes. Sometimes I cant believe a Toyota put out a vehicle so underpowered.
What do you mean by idle searching?

up, down, up, down, up, down and so on is called a searching idle.

Long story short, the V-6 is a pretty good motor, but if only 1 tiny problem is wrong it runs like crap. It needs to be kept just about perfect.

Ok, last time you changed plugs, wires, cap etc? Did a tune-up.. Searching idle can happen because the idle is too low, low compression, TPS (not likely but possible) tune-up needed etc...

I had 33s and a 6inch lift on my runner and I was hauling balls, but I did a few mods. Trust me good power is possible. It does good for what it is...
