i had an 89 4runner with removable top. when i took the top off and put it back on again, all bolts intact and tight, the rear window would not roll up via rear key or the in-cab button. the 'rear door' light stays on in the dash, as if it won't roll up because it thinks the rear gate is open.</P>


after totalling that truck, the exact same issue is happening on my new 86 runner. what's the deal??</P>

 

There is a switch in your rear window sheld wiper, where if the wiper is not held all the way up the window will not roll up or down. Try holding the wiper as high up as posible and turn the key to roll it up and down. If this works then you need to adjust your wiper to hold itself higher up when it is turned off. The reason why it does this is so that you do not roll your windoqw up and crush your wiper blade.
