Default Window Tinting

The quarter glass in my 4runner shell (windows above the quarter panels) has a dot-matrix treatment from the factory thats intended to act as a light diffuser (or faux window tint). Those of you with first gen 4runners are probably aware of what I'm trying to describe here.

I would like to tint all the windows on the truck (with REAL tint!) but if you try to put window tint over the dot-matrix it'll come out looking like crap (with air pockets around all the dots).

The trouble is, this stuff is a little more stout than what it looks to be. Though it LOOKS like paint it is far more integrated into the glass as something much tougher. I have used Bix Paint Stripper and razor blades in an attempt to remove it but it's not even fazed.

I have also checked with different glass shops around town and even the Toyota dealer for glass panels without the dot-matrix pattern but nothing like that seems to exist.

For those of you who have been serious about doing a nice, thorough tint job all the way around (sans windshield of course!) how did you get around the stupid dot-matrix covered windows??!!!

(No, I refuse to paint those two windows with black paint!!!)

The entire window has the Dot Matrix on it or is it just a 2 inch (or so) border around the window?
