Hi all! I'm new to the forum, and to the 4runner vehicle itself. I have fond memories of riding in my neighbors black lifted runner back in the late 80's. I've decided tha I want to relive these memories and buy my own 1st gen runner.
I was just wondering if there's anything I should look out for. What would be a resonable price to pay for one and what should I look for.... Basically, any info would be helpful!!!

 

I just bought one for $1500...an 86 with 227k on the ticker.

I hear that the main thing to check for is timing chain integrity/teeth wear. Also the oil pan gasket was leaking pretty badly and that was tough for the guy to repair before selling.

Check the brake system, alternator current, clutch master cylinder, and rear shocks. Also the power rear window working is a huge plus.
