our 87 started to bog down a bit I think when we put the 33's on but it still did okay. Still ran just as well as most stock 4runners that old do. When we replace the engine in it, we will probably stick with the 22re, and maybe regear it , because I am hoping to go a little bigger and step it up to 35's. Plus, we do live in the mountains so I am going to need alittle help with some hill climbing power. I love toyotas, but even I dont usually want to get stuck behind an older toy coming up the mountain to work

maybe look into the 4.7L tundra motor...it would fit and it would have tons of power. My truck flies thru the mts!

really? thats good to know!We had been thinking of going to a v8. We checked out the conversion kits and stuff, but my husband said that the 302 would fit better than a 350, but i dont really want to go with a ford engine. I really like the 22re. Its such a good engine and easy to work on, but I like the rumble of a 350. It would be nice to stick with a toyota engine and still have some good power

my truck blows away chevys with a 350. They are heavier and your 4runner would fly!

nice!! I will definitely look into that then. how is it to work on?? Our 22re is cake, but the 3.0 in the 91 sucks we have to bring it to the toyota dealer to have it worked on most of the time

I found an article on the tundras at truckworld.com. It looks pretty darn impressive. Any idea where I would be able to get one though? Its such a new motor, I wonder if I would have to just find one out of a wrecked tundra, or straight from toyota??? What do you think?

its not a new motor. The land criuser has used it for many many years. You could find a wrecked tundra/land cruiser for a wrecking yard with low miles....
