SQUEALING NOISE???

SQUEALING NOISE???
My 1999 4-Runner has developed a squealing noise. It does not do it when idling or when accelerating, but when I get up to speed and let of the gas it starts to squeal. I thought maybe the water pump, but that would leak antifreeze and squeal all the time. I thinking it’s a belt.
Also, I have 106,000 miles on it, I had the timing belt changed at 59,000. When should it be changed again?

SQUEALING NOISE???
I own a '99 4runner and have the exact same problem. I hear a high pitched squeaking noise everytime I accelerate to about 30+ mph and let it coast. I really only hear it when it is cold out and have tried everything toget it fixed. I have had it looked at a total of 4 times by two different mechanics. I had the alternator belt changed today and the noise was still there. It is driving me insane.I was wondering if anyone any luck with getting rid of the noise on their truck or have any advice. Iwill putup another post if I solve the problem. Thanks for your help.

RE: SQUEALING NOISE???
Same problem here too on my '97 4Runner, started squealing more with cold weather (around freezing).Same symptoms, squeals only on firm acceleration and engine revs > 3k.I think it's got something to do with the varable speed coupling to the engine fan. Listen carefully for changes in the fan rev's once you're up to speed, let up on the gas and then give 'er again - squeal will come and go.One Toyota mechanic told me that this coupling is dependent on speed and temperature. Suspect with age it is wearing out. Any other theories? Anyone actually had the fan coupingthing replaced? Probably pricey.

RE: SQUEALING NOISE???
Follow-up to my prev post. Problem fixed! Toyota mechanic picked up on it instantly. Wasone of the twobelts, not the viscous coupling. Onebeltwascracked and loose, the other suspect too. Replaced'em both. Happy now.

RE: SQUEALING NOISE???
Tony. Thank you for following up. My mechanic, the third one I have been to, swears it is not the belts plus I had the timing belt and serpentine belt replaced at 90,000 and I still had the problem. What a ngihtmare. If you hear of anything else to check for please let us know. Thank you.
