Default I think I want a 4runner

I am replacing a Land Rover, I think a 4runner may be right.
Most dring on paved roads, but 9 mos out of the year it will be hunting/fishing on country roads, farm lanes , and fields. No heavy off road.I am not opposed to new but think I can save $ with 1-3 years old and get the same capability.
Suggestions?
Years, Models? What to avoid? Trail edition or certain options?

It has come to a choice of a 4Runner Trail or an Xterra Offroad 2005+
Can someone give feedback on owning an Offroad Model?
Thanks for your time.

Yea, if you are going to tow it next door. Not really, if your 4runner has a hitch then go for it. If it doesn't there may be a reason it not having one. But what you are going to pay for a rental and a new hitch, how about just having it towed?
