I have a 2002 4runner limited. I'm having major problems onthe highwayat around 75-78 mph while on cruise control. It is constantly hunting through gears while ascending even the smalles of hills. It seems that my car is EXTREMELY underpowered or something is set wrong with my cruise control. My engine rpm go high and it launches me over the top of the hill sometimes as fast as 85 mph. I can't imagine this is normal. I'm sure it's taking a toll on my transmission and I can't take it anymore. Is there anything that can be done to help this?

 

is it on the factory catalytic converter? often vehicles with a cat starting to go bad will lose power under load, especially when climbing hills...

<IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0">We just purchased a 2005 4-Runner V-8 2WD and have noticed that it reacts similarly when the cruise is engaged...mostly notice when towing another vehicle(race car) orboat.Wellthere are 2 disappoinments with this vehicle...your inquiry and when the driver's seat "clicks" into place each time I take off and stop abruptly..sort of have a lead foot...LOL I am regrettingnot getting a 4WD now...but the dealership did not have many to choose from and I fell in love with the Galactic Gray color in Sport Edition...plus there justaren't many places aroundhere to ride...Just for the record, Iam a femalealso....and LOVE cars, trucks, planes...Have to befaster than allthose slow pokes around me... basically a speed junkie.
