Default Gotta warm up

I have a 93 4Runner. For a year I have been having to let the truck warm up for at least 15 min. in cold weather or it won't change gear. I am trying to keep from having to take it to the dealership because I ask various mechanics who tell me they have no idea what it could be. I mean, when it is warmed up, it switches gears just fine, so it can't be the transmission going out. Anyonne has an idea?

Don't go to a dealer, especially with an older truck like that. I only trust AAMCO for tranny work.

Hmm, thick fluid prevents shifting. Sounds like an obstruction somewhere (assuming this is an AT we're talkng about) preventing tranny fluid from flowing untilit thins out.

Isn't there a screen in the tranny that needs to be cleaned on a regular basis? Might be as simple as that.

change the fluid and see where it goes from there. Might be a little thick for the season. Then let us know
