Default Ride Height Sensor Problems

Hi,
We have a 2003 4-Runner which has a small oily leak on the ground as well as oil smeared on the left side of the frame just below driver's side. When investigating, I noted that there was a cylinder and brake lines bolted to the frame from which the leak originated. Our dealer dtermined that it was due to a defective ride height sensor system on the left side.
The remedy is to fix the left ride height sensor system or to remove the complete ride height sensor system and replce that with four new shocks. Can anyone comment on this please? Would removing the ride height sensor system affect handling, etc. if we were to haul a camper?
We also found that there is increased vibration in the steering wheel when travelling on a rough road even a paved road which has pressure cracks running across. Could the defective ride height sensor system affect a rough ride?
Thanks for any input.
Frank
