Default Intake Upgrade Question

Hey all,
I'm new here, my name is Pat.
Anyway, I just got a 1999 4-Runner SR5 Sport this past week and I am looking for Intakes.

I was just wondering if I can get opinions on which is the best value/best performance product between the K&N/AEM/INJEN intakes. All seem really great but what has everyone else experienced with these intakes?

Thanks
-Pat

Pat,

I have a 1999 4-Runner SR5 and just ordered the Volant 18634, I read a lot about how it will increase HP performance and help slightly with gas milage. I will let you know how it works for me.

The Volant has a closed airbox that feeds right from the same portal that the factory filter box fed from, the K&N is also rated high but is not boxed and pulls air from the engine compartment.

will rspond once it is installed and I have some facts to share.

Pat,
I installed a K&N on my 2000 Sport a few weeks back and love it. I also tightened my throttle cable at the same time, so it is hard to say which one made the most difference. However, the truck is more responsive to the throttle and obviously sounds cool. The dyno charts show 9.4 hp increase at about 4000 rpms for the 3.4 L. I am pleased with mine, but it is true that the filter does indeed see some of the engines air. The heat shield appears to stop probably 90% of the hot air, but does not seal around the tube to the throttle.

I picked it up at a local shop for $240 and took about 1.5 hours to install. Quite easy installation if you have the proper tools.
