i don't currently own a 4runner but will be buying one in the next few months. i'd prefer the earlier ones up through 89 with a standard trans. never owned a toyota although i've had several other import cars in the past. what years have the better engines,trans,4x4 etc. i'll have 3-4k bucks to spend and don't mind if it needs a little tlc. can i get something close to a good daily driver for this amount? i don't care how trashed the body might be either as long as the frame is solid. don't know if they put v6's in these but would probably prefer one of the legendary four bangers i hear so much about.

 

if you are looking in the 80's i would try to find an 86, they have solid axle front ends and the ever famous fuel injected 22RE. you might have toput some work into finding one but it will be worth it. rock on!
